Governor Gavin Newsom has signed AB 3252 into law.
Not only does the measure extend the existence of the California Court Reporters Board, but it also institutes a provisional licensing program for official court reporter positions in the state. In addition, the bill requires an individual to state their CSR license on the record of a deposition and during a court proceeding so the attorneys can trust that an actual CSR is reporting their matter. CCRA supported this bill and provided crucial suggested edits.
AB 3252 is one key piece in the campaign to bring more individuals into the court reporting profession and to protect the integrity of the official court record. CCRA will continue to push for legislation, budget items and other strategies to expand our workforce and institute key protections for our members.
